A key function will be to provide support in training and education events.

It is with great joy we, in collaboration with Lund University, have launched our first 40 hour course: Systematic review and meta-analysis: Introduction to Cochrane methodology.The course is a one-week (40 hours) PhD student elective course at Lund university; postdocs and participants from other universities may attend as well.

In addition to the workshop in Uppsala in March next year, the same workshop will be arranged in Stockholm the following month in April.Title of the workshop: How to prepare a Cochrane systematic review: Practical and methodological issues.Where: Karolinska Institutet, campus Solna. In September 2017 we had the first Cochrane Sweden workshop, in Lund. Next one will take place in Uppsala on March 12th 2018.

Gøtzsche, director of the Nordic Cochrane Centre, shares his experience of being on the Cochrane Board after returning from the GES. I have participated in two face-to-face Board meetings. This work has been much more interesting than I thought it would be.

Today, evidence-based medicine is facing multiple serious challenges. Some claim that EBM has been hijacked by vested interests. We see an emphasis on surrogate outcomes with uncertain clinical value, on statistically significant results with marginal clinical benefit, and even outright manipulation of data. Publication bias and selective outcome reporting presents huge challenges and there is a clear tendency to focus on benefits, and disregard harms of interventions.
